Statement
The main motivation of my art is to capture the essence of nature in abstract ways. Using metal and various mixed media materials like wood, ceramic, concrete, I try to incorporate the balance between the movement and stillness, and the simplicity and complexity of the core forms that I find inherent in nature. I try to accentuate the equilibrium between two opposite materials by shaping chaotic hardwood burls into clean round pieces, and at the same time giving metal an organic feel. Each piece is directly worked on by the means of welding and other fabrication techniques, rather than casting. The overall effect that I wish to achieve is the sense of the calmness of nature that comes from this balance.
